WHO ARE IN GOOD STANDING PER RTCA BYLAWS
Rat Terrier Club of America "RTCA" is the official parent club for the Rat Terrier in the American Kennel Club "AKC". The breed is fully accepted into the Stud Book as of June 1, 2013. The Rat Terrier will also be eligible to compete in the Terrier Group & AKC will maintain an open registry for the breed until July 1, 2018. In 2018, the RTCA board requested the stud book remain open an additional 5 years. The stud book closed January`1, 2023.
The Rat Terrier Club of America was the first National organization to provide resources, information and a written standard for the Rat Terrier. Due to our club members and Board of Directors efforts, Rat Terriers are now an AKC full status breed and eligible for participation in all AKC conformation and performance events as of June 23, 2013!

AKC approved the extension for open registration until January 1, 2023. Open registration is now closed. If the pedigree committee can answer any question please do not hesitate to contact us :
New leadership for the RTCA strives to be inclusive to all members. The main objective is to make the club one in which anyone who is passionate about the breed can contribute and move the breed and the club forward. In 2023 we hope to achieve Member Club status with AKC.
